avantgardejovan-deactivated2012 asked: Hi Amanda. I was wondering if you would tell me how you feel about being Black and Filipino? Sorry that it came out so bluntly, but I couldn't think of another way to phrase it. The reason I ask is because I am really into Filipino culture and the Filipino people. I'm planning to move to the Philippines, and I would like to marry a Filipina someday. So needless to say, my kids would be Black and Filipino. I know it's different here in the U.S., but has ur race ever made u feel bad or lost?
I love being Black and Filipino! I live in the US, but my family is more Filipino oriented as in.. we eat a lot of Filipino food and what not. My mom cooks all the time and I love learning from her and my dad was always on my ass about the bad things and the good things, so I grew up getting the best of both worlds, I suppose. I have 2 older brothers and 1 older sister who are full Filipino, so the whole Filipino culture is always around regardless of the fact my father is Black and myself and my younger brother are mixed. There’s something about being Black and Filipino that’s unexplainable or.. I can’t explain it anyways. I love my heritages and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve never been belittled, felt ‘bad or lost’ about my race; I make my own decisions and do my own thing and I feel like that separates me from those Black, Filipino, Mixed/Mutt stereotypes. Mixed babies are beautiful, so find that Filipina beauty! Your children will be gorgeous! Like me! :D
